Make It Monday or Tuesday- American Girl 18" Doll Christmas Tree Skirt Craft

Make it Monday December 2nd A Jingle Bell or Button Tree Skirt!

I love to set up my doll sized Christmas Tree. I purchased this one from the dollar store in my area and it is the perfect doll sized tree. It was easy to put together but I realized it needed a tree skirt. So I looked in my craft box and found I had some fun holiday print felt and set out to make the perfect tree skirt for my dolls trees.
To make your own you will need:
-A doll sized tree (check our dollar store, mine was $1.25!)
-A full sheet of felt
-A Dinner Plate
-A pencil
-Sewing or craft scissors
-Jingle bells or Buttons from Buttons Galore & More https://www.buttonsgaloreandmore.com
-A needle and thread

Step 1- Assemble all your supplies so they are close at hand.
Step 2- Select your felt you wish to use. You can use any color you like. I had this multi pack and it was fantastic for this project!
Step 3- Place a dinner plate upside down on your felt. Do not worry if the plate is too large. Turn the felt upside down if it is patterned.
Step 4- Place rim of the plate on the edge of your felt and use a pencil to trace around the plate.
Step 5- Cut out  your circle shape.

Step 6- fold your felt as shown in the top left photo above, Use your hand to create an L shape from the “not round” side of your felt. You can see above my thumb in the photo that this is the side that the plate over lapped. This will be the back of your tree skirt.
Step 7- Use your scissors and cut a straight line along that fold to the point where my index finger is placed in the photos above. You can use a pencil to mark the spot to stop your scissors.
Step 8- You can now place your tree skirt around your tree to see how well it fits.

Step 9- Now is the time to embellish your tree skirt. You can use Jingle bells or buttons to dress up the skirt.  Thread your needle and knot the ends. Attach your bells or buttons all the way around the skirt.
Step 10- Set your skirt around your tree and you are ready to decorate your dolls holiday tree!
I hope you enjoyed today’s post and that you make a tree skirt for your dolls like the one I have shared with you today.
I look forward to sharing more Make It Monday ideas with you soon.

Make It Monday - Sew a Holiday Skirt for 18" American Girl Dolls

 Make It Monday November 25th

This week I thought it would be fun to show you  an easy way you can sew a holiday skirt for your dolls. If you can sew a straight line with a machine or by hand you can create fun and full skirt for your dolls.
To create your own skirts for your dolls you will need:
-2 safety pins
-10 inches of ¼ inch thick elastic
-A strip of fabric that is at least 9 inches wide by 18 inches long
-An iron and ironing board
-A measure tape
-Sewing Scissors
-A Sewing Machine or Needle and thread if sewing by hand.

Step 1- Assemble your supplies, plug in your iron and set up your ironing board.
Step 2- Use your measuring tape to measure and cut your skirt material to 9 inches wide by 18 inches long.
Step 3- Fold one of the long edges of your fabric in towards the “wrong” side of your fabric as shown in the photo above to ¼  inch. Use your Iron to keep it in place.
Step 4- Fold that edge you just created towards the “wrong” side of your fabric at 1 inch. Iron it in place. *You can use sewing pins to hold your fold in place but the iron should do this easily for you.

Step 5- On the opposite edge which will be the bottom of your skirt fold and iron your edge at ¼ inch and then repeat.
Step 6- Take your fabric to your machine (or hand stitch) along the bottom edge you just ironed. Use your machine or hand stitch.
Step 7- Now create the casing that the elastic will go through at the top of your skirt. To create this casing or tube, sew along the folded edge that touches your “wrong” side of the material as shown in the top photo above.
Step 8- Cut a 10 inch piece of elastic and place a safety pin through each end of the elastic you cut.
Step 9- Feed one end through one side of the casing you created.

Step 10- Bring the top edge of the casing together so that the casing top and skirt bottom are equal. Place the Elastic and Casing edge under the foot of your sewing machine. Sew and secure (back stitch through he elastic) then sew a straight-line down the raw edges of the skrit. Secure at the bottom of the skirt with a back stitch as well.
Step 11- Trim away the excess from the seam you have just created.
Step 12- Turn your skirt right side out and your skirt is ready to wear!

I hope you enjoyed today’s Make it Monday craft and I look forward to sharing more doll play ideas with you soon.~ Karen Owen aka Karen Mom of Three
